Alliant Energy will soon propose a rate increase averaging 4-6 percent for its natural gas customers in Iowa.
The company’s Interstate Power and Light utility plans to file the rate increase request on May 25 with the Iowa Utilities Board. The increase would apply only to the service costs on the customer’s natural gas bill, which average 30-40 percent of the total bill, company spokesman Justin Foss said.
IPandL is not the dominant natural gas supplier in the Corridor. Its local markets include Mount Vernon, Lisbon, Palo and Vinton.
Foss said natural gas bills have dropped about 19 percent since 2005 at IPandL, due mainly to lower wholesale natural gas prices.
IPandL’s last natural gas rate increase was seven years ago.
Specific factors driving the company to seek a rate increase will be disclosed at the time of the filing, Foss said. The increase is expected to vary between different customer classes.
I don’t get this at all natural gas supply is at a all time high. It must be to pay for pensions for there big shots. Now that we had a mild winter there getting greedy.
They ask for a raise in rate because they have in place a mayor and a city council that know how to hold their asses up. No that’s not right. They know how to hold our asses up so they can get to our wallets. The gas guys have a lot of money to pay for bribes/campaign donations. Now everyone can see the plan give away everything.
They are a wasteful, so they have to get the money from someplace…the customer.
Natural gas wholesale pricing is at an all time low with new sources being found each month. I smell a rat with a money grab.
“Foss said natural gas bills have dropped about 19 percent since 2005.” (I didn’t notice that on my bill.) He further states that the last increase was 7 years ago, the year he claims wholesale costs started going down 7 years ago.
I am confused about what justification they have to raise the rates.
